Three game road trip ahead for Hammers

May 13, 2009
After a 6-3 victory over Charlotte last Friday the Hammerheads now hit the road for a three game road trip. The Hammerheads will take on Bermuda twice and Western Mass once over the next ten days.

The Hammerheads first stop will be an eight day visit to Bermuda where they are set to square off against the Hogges on Friday May 15th and Sunday May 17th. The Hogges are coming off two great wins at home over Richmond and Harrisburg. The Hammerheads will also play two exhibition games against the Bermuda U23 National Team on Monday May 18th and Wednesday May 20th.
Head Coach David Irving commented “We are off to a good start this season. Before the season began I would have said that Charlotte would be the toughest place to go and get a result but if you take a look it seems that Bermuda may be the toughest. They have had great success is their last two homes games and this will be a tough test for us playing them at their stadium twice in three days.”
Assistant Coach/Player Chris Bagley commented on the upcoming trip “This trip to Bermuda will be a tough test at this stage in the season to go and play twice over three days against a Bermuda team who has already proven so far that they are tough to beat at home. We do feel like we are playing very well right now and will try to continue playing with the momentum we have built over the first three games. This will also be a great opportunity to gel as a team spending over a week together on the road. We have a number of fun things planned off the field to take advantage of the extra time in Bermuda. And with the two exhibition games scheduled, it will also give everyone a chance to get some extra minutes of playing time against quality opponents with Bermuda's National Teams.
After Bermuda the Hammerheads head to Western Massachusetts where they will face the Pioneers on Friday, May 21st at 7:30pm. The Pioneers are currently still looking to obtain their first points in the standings.
Coach Irving commented “It will be very interesting to see where we stand after this three game road trip. We are going into this trip with some confidence are we are hoping to come back with positive results.”
During the duration of this trip the Hammerheads players and staff will be blogging and sending pictures to be posted on the Hammerheads Blog. Fans can follow this blog by visiting http://hammers.starnewsonline.com.
