The Wilmington Hammerheads will host North Carolina rival Charlotte Eagles on Tuesday, June 9th at Legion Stadium in the first round of the US Open Cup. The two teams have already met twice this season with one game ending in a tie and the Hammerheads winning the other 6-3. They are also scheduled to play on July 2nd at Legion Stadium as part of the USL2 regular season. 
The Hammerheads return to the Open Cup this season after a two year absence from the tournament. The Hammerheads last appearance in the Open Cup was in 2006 where they lost in the 4th round to the New York Red Bulls of the MLS.
Coach David Irving commented “It is great to be returning to the Open Cup this season. We have had great success in the past seasons in the tournament and are looking for a successful run this year.
