Hammerheads top Bermuda 1-0

June 5, 2009
The Wilmington Hammerheads started tonight’s game with dark clouds in the sky, but the rain never came down. The Wilmington Hammerheads faced up against the Bermuda Hogges for the third time this season. The Hammerheads have not loss to Bermuda this season with a tie and a win against them. The team came into tonight’s game on a two game losing streak and were looking to redeem themselves with a win at Legion stadium.

The first half was evenly sided with both teams getting their opportunities to score. In the eleventh minute the Hammerheads got the best chance of the half. Midfielder Kenny Bundy took a long shot. Then Forward Jamie Watson quickly collected the rebound and took a shot that knocked off the post. Watson was then able to collect his own rebound and this time tried to score with his head, but could not get the ball in the back of the net. The first half ended with the score being tied 0-0.

The second half came with more action then the first. Defender Calum Angus had a great game tonight and in the 60th minute was able to fly by three different Bermuda defenders and take a nice shot, but Bermuda keeper Williams was able to make a great save. Then in the 70th minute Kenny Bundy hustled to the ball and headed it on the byline to save it from going out of bounds and being a goal kick. He passed it right to Jyler Noviello who was right there to pounce on the ball and slam it far post into the back of the net. The Wilmington Hammerheads won tonight’s game 1-0.

The Hammerheads play again this Tuesday at 7:00pm for the first round of the U. S. Open Cup. The Hammerheads will be battling the Charlotte Eagles. The Hammerheads have battled the Eagles two times this season and have not lost. The tournament is single elimination and the Hammerheads must win to make it to the next round. Tickets are available for this game at www.wilmingtonhammerheads.com.
